DVD & Blu-Ray Buying Guides: Giallo (Part 2)

This is part two of the Giallo Buyers Guide and with it I hope to gather together some of the information on Giallo releases on the internet. Director: Lucio Fulci
  • There are multiple cuts of different length out there. See DVDCompare for details. The English version seems to be the longest edit.
  • It's a bit of a fuck-up really. The R0 Severin DVD seems to be the French cut with extra sex scenes and reduced (10 minutes) dialogue. See Michael Mackenzie's comparison for details. Apart from that it's supposed to be an excellent transfer and comes with a soundtrack CD.

A Quiet Place to Kill (1970)

  • The Italian DVD from Medusa is not English friendly.
  • The Spanish R2 DVD from Manga Films does have an English soundtrack but is cut quite heavily and apparently has an audio problem.
  • Arrow, in conjunction with Camera Obscura, will be releasing a Blu-Ray/DVD on 22nd August 2016 (23rd August 2016 in the US). As yet no date has been set for the Camera Obscura release, although I would imagine it would be the same (or near enough) as the Arrow set. Human Cobras (1971)

AKA: L'uomo più velenoso del cobra
Director: Adalberto "Bitto" Albertini
  • The only release is by MYA. It does seem to have a couple of problems though: the original aspect ration should be 2.35:1 but this transfer is 4:3 and as a result there is a bit of pan-and-scan going on; also the picture quality is quite poor.

  • Of the two releases I found it looks like they both use the same source. Apparently the Italian Alan Young DVD has a slightly better picture quality but...
